Dear colleagues,

We are honoured to invite you to the 2nd international simposium of caucasiologists and linguists. The simposium is dedicated to the 110-th anniversary of outstanding Georgian linguist, Academician Arnold Chikobava’s birth.

The simposium will be held on 9th-11th October, 2008.

Themes of the simposium:

• Acad. Arnold Chikobava’s legacy and the modern linguistics.
• General linguistics problems of description of language systems and sub-systems.
• Problem of kinship of the Ibero-Caucasian languages.
• Theory of an ergative construction.
• Aspects of normativeness of a literary language.
• Lexicology, lexicography, terminology.
• Socio-cultural, ethnolinguistical and psycholinguistical aspects of studying the languages.
• The modern methods and technologies of researching the Ibero-Caucasian languages.

A round table:

• The future of the Ibero-Caucasian languages.
• Linguo-cultural portrait of the Caucasus and dialogue of cultures.
• The modern linguistics – the national languages and cultures in the context of globalization.

The working languages of the simposium are: Georgian, Russian, English.Georgian and Russian abstracts should be accompanied by English translation.
The size of the abstracts for the simposium must not be more than 2 printed pages (500 words). Technical conditions: an editor of the text - Microsoft Word; Georgian type-face – Acadnusx; English and Russian fonts – Times New Roman; format- A4; size of type – 11. In the case of using symbols, please, send the relevant type-face. Pages are not numbered; examples – in italics, underline - bold, indication to a source - [Chikobava, 1941, 23].

The last term of receiving abstracts is 5th June, 2008. Please, send your abstracts to this address: symposium@ice.ge

Time limit:

Plenary meeting report – 25 minutes.
Sectional meeting report – 15 minutes.
Discussion – 5-7 minutes.

Cultural activities (excursions in Old Tbilisi and Mtskheta) are planned for participants.

An organizational committee will make a decision on taking the abstracts in the simposium programme.
You will be informed on accepting your abstracts in written form not late than 30th June, 2008.
An organizational committee will provide with visa paperwork.
A registration fee is appointed for preparing materials of the simposium:
for foreigners – 50 €;
for participants from CIS – 20 €;
for Georgian researchers – 30 GEL.
Foreign participants of the simposium will pay the registration fee after arriving.
